Inside Arsenal’s 100-Injury Crisis and How It Affects Arteta’s Squad

Sports · Wainaina Mark · December 19, 2025
In Summary

Arsenal have reached 100 separate injuries since the 2024/25 season began, topping the Premier League injury table and stretching Mikel Arteta’s squad depth and title ambitions.

Arsenal’s season has been defined as much by brilliance on the pitch as by a relentless run of bad luck off it. The Gunners have now recorded 100 separate injuries since the start of the 2024/25 campaign — an unwanted landmark that leaves Mikel Arteta’s side top of the Premier League’s injury table.

A grim milestone sealed by Ben White

The century was reached when Ben White limped out of the first half against Wolves, making Arsenal the first top-flight club to hit the 100 mark across the past two seasons. Brighton trails closely with 97 recorded setbacks, while north London rivals Spurs sit third on 90. For a team chasing silverware and consistency, the tally is a stark reminder of how fragile momentum can be.

The usual suspects and the days lost

Some names recur more than others. Ben White has been the most afflicted, suffering nine injuries since last season that have cost him 166 days on the sidelines. Riccardo Calafiori and Declan Rice follow with eight setbacks apiece; Calafiori’s absences total 120 days, while Rice’s knocks have been largely minor, adding up to 33 days lost.

Long-term absences have also bitten hard. Jurrien Timber and Bukayo Saka — both sidelined for extended periods since joining Arsenal — are joint-fourth with seven injuries each. Gabriel Magalhaes, currently out with a knee problem, has suffered six setbacks.

Where the damage has come from

Certain injuries have been particularly punishing. Knee problems top the list, accounting for 668 days lost since August 2024. Hamstring issues have cost the club 458 days, and ACL injuries — tracked separately — have added 216 days of absence. The cumulative effect of these specific problems has been to erode squad depth and force constant tactical reshuffles.

Who is currently sidelined, and the latest timelines

Ben White — limped out against Wolves; scanned and absent from training; reports suggest up to a month out.

Gabriel — out since November with a knee issue picked up on Brazil duty; targeting a return by the end of the year and eyeing the Aston Villa fixture on December 30.

Cristhian Mosquera — injured against Brentford; Arteta described the problem as complicated, and reports indicate he will be out until at least mid‑January.

Kai Havertz — suffered a knee problem in August; multiple setbacks have delayed his comeback, though there is hope he could feature by year’s end.

Max Dowman, the 15‑year‑old prospect injured in an under‑21 friendly and will be sidelined for several weeks.

Martin Zubimendi — absent from a recent training session as part of a managed workload; not injured but closely monitored.

The wider impact and what comes next

Arteta’s squad has shown resilience, but the injury ledger exposes a vulnerability that could derail title ambitions if it persists. Constant rotation, tactical tinkering and the psychological toll of losing key players have all tested Arsenal’s depth. The club’s medical team and coaching staff face a race against time to restore fitness without risking further setbacks.

As the calendar turns and fixtures pile up, Arsenal must balance recovery with results. The 100‑injury mark is more than a statistic — it’s a challenge that will define the Gunners’ season unless the tide turns and the squad can finally breathe.
